Hardness pencil make hardness testing a more precise process - especially when testing small specimens or mineral grains within a rock. The point of the pick can easily be placed on the part of the specimen that you want to test. The scratches that you make or trails of metal that are left behind are usually very easy to distinguish. 

Instructions:

As long as the measured hard pen on the hand, like a pencil, with the ground into a 45 degree angle. Then, with the same pressure as writing, drag the point over the surface of the specimen. It will leave scratches, slide and not scratch, or leave a metal mark.

Hardness range:

Mohs: 2-3 Testing for the soft floor.

Mohs: 3-5 Testing for the middle soft floor.

Mohs: 5-7 Testing for the hard floor.

Mohs: 7-9 Testing for the very hard floor.
